Introducing the founder of SKYE PETS
The driving force behind SKYE PETS: Joanna Maddison. Originally hailing from Devon, England, Joanna emigrated to Australia in 2013 with her husband, Liam.
Joanna's passion for animals and aviation led her to explore alternative ways for pets to travel in and out of Australia. Recognising the stress and trauma that can come with traditional cargo travel for pets, she was motivated to find a better way.
With SKYE PETS, Joanna is thrilled to offer an in-cabin pet travel service that prioritises the safety, comfort, and well-being of furry family members. She is dedicated to revolutionising pet travel in and out of Australia and is excited to bring her vision to life.
Our Story by Founder Joanna Maddison
Our journey began in late 2021 when we were researching how to relocate our three dogs to the UK. Having adopted them in Australia, we had no prior experience with international pet travel and were reluctant to subject our furry family members to a stressful and traumatic cargo journey.
As we explored alternative options, we discovered that there were no commercial alternatives to avoid a lengthy cargo trip in and out of Australia. It wasn't until we came across the possibility of chartering a private aircraft that would enable our dogs to travel in the cabin with us that we realised we could provide a much-needed service for pet owners.
After sharing our experience in pet travel and expat Facebook groups, we were amazed to discover that many other pet owners felt the same way, and we also became aware of the inherent risks associated with brachycephalic breeds travelling in cargo holds.
It became clear that there was a significant demand for an in-cabin pet travel service in and out of Australia, and so in December 2021, SKYE PETS was born. We chose the name Skye after one of our dogs, which had a personal touch for us and was relevant to the pet travel service we provide.
We are proud that our inaugural pet charter flight sucessfully took place in June 2023. Since then, we have expanded our services and now offer frequent flights to various destinations.
At SKYE PETS, we firmly believe that pets are family, not excess baggage, and we are committed to bringing a future change to the way pets travel in and out of Australia.
